Collecting Restaurant / Diner China

Collecting restaurant or diner china can be very interesting and also can be used if you so desire. Actually you can set your table with each piece different, dinner plates, bread plates, cups & saucers, platters and other serving pieces. You can also just collect say cups and saucers, mugs, individual creamers, pitchers, small teapots etc.

Another neat item I’ve found are candle holders or chamber sticks from older hotels also ashtrays with the box match holders.

Restaurantware was also used by railroads (probably the hardest to find and most expensive), ships, hospitals, company cafeterias, military branches, schools, hotels and others. Most popular I guess is pieces with restaurant or other names on the front. Also very popular collectible is the air brushed pieces. Some great designs were made.

A few of the companies that made restaurant china were Buffalo Pottery, Hall China Company, Homer Laughlin China Company, Iroquois China Company, Mayer China Company, Syracuse China, Syracuse, Shenango Pottery Company, Sterling China Company, Wallace China Company and others.

Vintage advertising label are sort of neat to collect, very colorful, various sizes etc. Crate labels, can labels, soda and beer labels, wine bottle labels, cigar box labels, luggage labels and more.

Some of the larger ones look great framed, smaller ones you can make a framed collage. Or they can be stored in plastic sleeves in ring binders. Labels can be collected by subject, size, graphics, geographical locations or just what catches your eye.

Litho Old Smoky Fire Engine
A nice vintage ‘Old Smoky’, Fire Engine, tin litho fricton powered toy. In the original box. Made in Japan S-1302. SSS International / Japan. 1950’s era. About 6-3/4 inches long, not mint but in great condition. Box has Eric written on front

Antique Glass Negative Lenci Dolls
While digging through a desk drawer the other I discovered an old glass negative that I bought years ago. I had wrapped in up a stuck at the bottom of the drawer to protect it and forgot all about it. Shows a store window with a display of Lenci dolls. Above the window It has ‘Lenci’. With a magnifying glass the prices are a 49′6 type, So I fiqure either Italian Lira or Great Britian Shillings. Negative is 6-1/2 x 8-1/2 in size.

I got to thinking after I posted this and did some researching. I thought I had listed this once before and did some Google searching, sure enough I listed it about 2 years ago on my old store stie and my other blog. I guess that somewhere down the line changing hosts and setting up the new store it got dropped in the shuffle.

Antique Apple Parer
Antique cast iron apple parer / peeler mounted on wooden base. The base is about 4-1/2 x 10. Dates from about 1875 from what info I could find. Works great. Nice condition. Super addition to your antique kitchenware collection.

More neat old kitchenware.

Antique Pressing Irons

A few of the antique pressing irons in the shop. The ones shown have removable handles. these small irons are usually called child’s size irons, also sleeve irons used for sleeves, laces and fancy work.
